彼得·盖伊（Peter Gay），德裔美国史学家，耶鲁大学荣休教授。1923年生于柏林，后移民美国，在哥伦比亚大学获得博士学位，后曾在此任教。他著作等身，研究主题广泛，涉及启蒙运动、中产阶级等诸多社会文化史领域。曾荣获美国国家图书奖、美国历史学会杰出学术贡献奖、美国艺术与文学院金奖等重要奖项。盖伊先后花费了六七年时间撰写的《启蒙时代》至今依然是关于启蒙的必读之作。 译者王皖强，历史学博士，中国人民大学历史学院历史系教授，博士生导师， 世界近现代史教研室主任。 主要研究方向为西方思想文化史。译有《保守主义的含义》等。
